Bkay Won:The City's Rising Star
When it comes to Calgary's musical landscape and the world at large, Bkay is the new kid on the block with something to prove. Her sound predominantly draws from Hip-hop, R&B, Afrobeats and Alternative genres, showcasing the innovation and creativity the mix of these sounds can create.
She is well known for her collaborations, captivating performances and versatile sound selection. She started her musical journey as a bedroom artist when she discovered Garageband on her phone and then stumbled on a recording booth at the University of Calgary's TFDL library, followed by an encounter with prominent hip-hop artist Tea Fannie.
Bkay gradually rose to being a captivating freestyler, performer and recording artist starting by joining the Tribe Artists Society's Monday Rap Nights in late 2022. Bkay has much to celebrate when it comes to connecting with the local scene from involvement with artist collectives like Cypher Club and the aforementioned Tribe, to performances including the Icarus Sound Takeover by Icarus Sound, the 2024 Queens of YYC featuring a line up of all female acts, the 2024 Halloween Ship Hop alongside respected Edmonton hip-hop artist Arlomaverick, the Good Medicine Cyphers at Calgary's 2023 and 2024 Folk Fests, the 2023 Ethnik Festival of Arts and Culture at Calgary Stampede, Raw Voices by the Alcove, Drop the Mic & more. With her upcoming debut EP set for release in mid 2025, Bkay has shown considerable growth and made it clear that she has something to say and is ready to share with the world.

Life is famously described as a journey, and that it is. Back to One is an 8 track EP born from an artist residency between Bkay and Calgary label 3rd Verse Records. This project speaks to a journey from isolation and self doubt to one of confidence and self discovery.
Drawing from hip-hop, electronic sounds, r&b and afro-fusion, this project captures it's own original sound full of versatility and does not shy away from boosting other voices featuring talented multi-genre artists namely Tea Fannie, J-Bravo and Heston, and stellar production by the award winning producer/engineer, Chef Beatz. From Bkay's sharp writing to the track sequencing and production, each element of this record combines in harmony to produce a fresh sound that strives to be a staple, not just locally but in modern music
